Make Youth Sports Work for Your Family!

May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, and the Lansing YMCA offers a variety of sports program options so children can discover a sport or activity they love! These options include soccer, basketball, T-ball, and more—and scholarships are available so that cost isn’t a barrier. Many of our sports programs play games right here in our Lansing community, so travel costs are not an issue. You can also play sports with your children and stay active together at the Y—visit our online aquatics and sports informationfor all the opportunities.

Remember, children and teens need 60 minutes of activity every day and sports can help them get it! Weekly practices and classes build activity into their routine while giving them all three types of activity they need:

  • Aerobic (making their hearts beat faster, such as running)
  • Muscle strengthening (building muscle with activities such as throwing)
  • Bone strengthening (activities such as jumping)

When children and teens can do a variety of activitiessuch as running, jumping, skating, swimming, throwing, and playingthey get the mix they need to stay healthy!
