Why does the Y have an annual campaign?

The Y’s financial assistance program is 100% funded by donations. Membership fees cover our facilities, salaries, etc. but do not fund our financial assistance programs. To make our programs and services available to all, we need the support of our members, staff, and the community in raising funds so that no one is turned away.

Why do we provide financial assistance and scholarships to those with demonstrated need?

At the YMCA, we believe individuals and families take pride in paying their own way whenever possible. Most people prefer to assume full responsibility for program and membership fees when their financial circumstances allow.

However, when unexpected hardships or ongoing financial challenges place strain on household budgets, essential opportunities for youth development, childcare, health, and connection should not disappear. In fact, during difficult times, access to YMCA programs can become even more critical.

Financial assistance and scholarships ensure that children can continue attending programs, families can maintain access to wellness resources, and individuals can stay connected to a supportive community — regardless of financial barriers.
