Parkwood YMCA Kid’s Time Preschool Center - Now Enrolling!

Welcome to Parkwood Preschool!

The Parkwood YMCA Kid’s Time Preschool is committed to ensuring that your child’s first educational one is positive. Our fun-filled, individualized program helps children grow academically, physically, and emotionally. Through play, stories, songs, crafts, and more, we assist children in meeting developmentally appropriate milestones. Activities are designed and scheduled to encourage socialization, respect for one another, sharing cooperation, listening skills, independence, and learning through fun experiences.

Individual care will nurture strong beginnings and support developmental growth at a comfortable pace for each child. The YMCA core values of caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty are incorporated into our daily routine to enhance character development. Our goal is to provide a safe, nurturing, age-appropriate environment that encourages individual growth.

Philosophy

Our philosophy at the Parkwood Preschool is that each child is unique in his or her own way of learning and developing. We believe that playing is a child’s work, and that the preschool experience should be full of new experiences and discoveries made during meaningful, facilitated play.

Curriculum

As an early care and education program, the Parkwood Preschool strives to provide high-quality learning opportunities for children ages three to five. In all the classrooms we use a research-based, whole-child approach to education. By fostering all aspects of the child, we prepare them for success in school and life. Teachers individualize instruction to meet the needs of all learners, and encourage meaningful partnerships with families.

Weekly lesson plans are posted in each room to inform families of the range of fun, age-appropriate activities designed to challenge and support growth in learning domains (social/emotional, cognitive, language, dramatic play, art, and gross and fine motor skills). Consistent daily routines help support a child’s emotional comfort and promote opportunities to learn in a hands-on, play-based environment.

To reach our goals we use a blended curriculum including individual, small group and large group activities. Our learning areas include library/quiet area, blocks, art, table toys, sensory, math science, music and movement, dramatic play, and literacy. Materials are arranged so that children can easily and independently make selections that appeal to them. Teachers thoughtfully plan activities that will enhance all areas of development: social-emotional, cognitive, physical, and creative.

How to Enroll

Children may be enrolled at the Parkwood Preschool throughout the year. Children aged three to five are accepted for care on either a full-time or part-time basis.

  • Full-time care is defined as care that is delivered five days per week.
  • Part-time care is defined as care that is delivered either two or three days per week.

Where do I get the enrollment paperwork?

The enrollment materials can be found at this link. You may download the fillable PDF, complete it, and return it to the Parkwood Y directly; you may also email the completed forms to parkwoodpreschool@lansingymca.org

Can I enroll my child for different days than the options listed here, such as Tuesday-Wednesday-Friday?

No. The enrollment options shown on the registration forms are the only ones available.

Are there scholarships available?

Yes, please see page 11 of the Family Handbook. YMCA scholarship funds vary from year to year, depending on the proceeds from our Annual Campaign. Although YMCA scholarship funds are always subject to periodic review, they generally expire at the end of the calendar year or the end of a child’s enrollment in a particular program, whichever comes first. Families receiving funds may reapply for future scholarships, with the understanding that neither awards nor their amounts are guaranteed.

Can I tour the facility?

Yes. please call (517) 827-9679 to schedule a tour.

Why can’t I pay by cash or check?

After a review of our payment processing systems, we are transitioning to a cashless payment system at the preschool. By going cashless, we are simplifying the payment experience, allowing for streamlined transactions, increased efficiency, and enhanced safety for both our staff and families.

My child is still in diapers; can I enroll him/her?

See page 15 of the Family Handbook. Children must be fully potty trained to attend the Parkwood Y Preschool. Pull-ups are allowed as long as the child is working on his/her toileting skills. We will assist children with buttons/zippers and hand washing.
